DEAN'S MESSAGE

Complex challenges today demand wholesome and innovative engagements. One needs to transcend the traditional disciplinary boundaries of knowledge and explore inter-disciplinarity for building insights into contemporary issues like Climate Change, Artificial Intelligence or Public Health. Synthesizing knowledge from various disciplines, using mixed methods of analysis and collaboration among diversely trained students and researchers constitutes a liberal arts education geared towards deep and critical understanding of a wide range of social, technological, or cultural issues of humankind.

The School of Liberal Studies imparts knowledge and skills through innovative pedagogy like collective engagement with perspectives and theories, co-creation of knowledge by students and teachers, experiential learning in real-life situations. The curriculum not only trains students in wholesome understanding of human problems but also urges them to find solutions in a participative, fair manner. Going beyond narrow specializations, our students will holistically contribute to a wide range of spheres: public service, corporate organizations, development sector, research and policy, journalism, entrepreneurship. The iiberal arts education aims to transform students into lifelong learners, who can discover their interests, enhance their potentials, and seek just, empathetic solutions for the society.

Wishing you best in your academic journeys and beyond

Prof. Arindam Banerjee
