BMU’s collaboration with world-class international universities helps students of the School of Law to understand the theory and practice of law from a global perspective. This unique immersion program provides our students with a holistic understanding of how economic, social, political, and cultural forces impact the study and practice of law worldwide.

Duke

Considered to be one of the very best law schools in the United States Duke School of Law prides itself on providing leadership at the national and international levels through teaching, research, and other forms of public service. Under this collaboration, BMU students will be nominated to Duke’s innovative summer academies in the United States and the Netherlands and can attend those programs at a significant discount. Duke and BMU have also agreed on a research exchange program where faculty may visit the other institution. BMU will submit recommendations for their best and most compatible students for Duke’s LLM program, preparing students for US legal practice. Unlike most LLM programs, students admitted to Duke’s top-ranked program are eligible for financial aid as determined by Duke.

Syracuse

Syracuse College of Law is a prestigious law school where President Joe Biden received his law degree. Under this agreement—the first of its kind between Syracuse and an Indian law school—selected students from BMU can study for a semester in Syracuse without having to pay additional tuition, saving over Rs. 20 lakhs for BMU students. BMU students will also be able to save similar sums on Syracuse’s LL.M. program. They will even be eligible to receive a US LL.M. in only one semester after completing their Indian degrees. Syracuse offers BMU students substantially discounted tuition to their unique two-year Juris Doctor program, which puts foreign students on par with US students for legal practice in the US, as well as summer programs that build students’ English language lawyering skills.

Pittsburgh

A law school with over 120 years of history, Pittsburgh School of Law provides world-class legal education in health law, international commercial law, intellectual property, and innovation law. BMU law students have priority access to this top-ranked US law program at a significant discount, allowing them to complete their degrees for a fraction of what students at other Indian law schools can offer for their students studying abroad. BMU Law is Pittsburgh School of Law’s only Indian partnership.

Others

BMU School of Law also has agreements for priority admission and discounted tuition for BMU students in international summer immersion programs. BMU Law Students are eligible for 10% discounts on tuition for courses in the London School of Economics’ summer program (covering issues of UK, European, and international law), 20% discounts on tuition at Fordham University’s three-week Summer Institute (covering issues on US law and legal skill building), up to 50% discounts on tuition for Syracuse University’s six-week English and lawyering skills program, created to train students in international legal practice, and 50% discounts at Duke Law School’s summer programs in the United States and the Netherlands.

Traditionally, the study of law is considered an independent field with unique approaches. However, the contemporary legal environment requires a different strategy, unlike the traditional focus of lawyers on “black letter law.” Therefore, it is crucial to have an interdisciplinary approach for lawyers, judges and lawmakers to understand the fundamentals of laws truly.

The law should be viewed as a tool for improving people’s lives, not just as a way to bring order and stability to a chaotic society. At BMU, we assist our students in developing a multi-dimensional understanding of law through studying history, political science, sociology, and economics in our BA LLB (Hons) programme.

For the BA LLB (Hons) programme, most existing law schools in the nation are still focused on theory-based learning, although the time has come for the transmission of research- and practice-based legal knowledge. To ensure that our students treat law not just as an academic subject to be mastered but as aspiring practitioners learning the craft, we at BMU designed our curriculum in consultation with top practitioners in the area.

The curriculum and pedagogy at BMU are built on innovation, creativity, a multidisciplinary approach, and experiential learning to achieve excellence. The School of Law at BMU gives a deeper comprehension of the complexity of societal issues and nurtures in its students the ability to address these issues in the future.
