BMU library follows an Open Access Policy, users are allowed to pick a book of their choice and get issued* atĀ the circulation section against the borrowerā€™s cards issued to the library users. (*reference books are not issued)

Library Rules

BML Munjal University Students, Faculty and Staff members are bonafide members of the library. All members of the library can access the library portal to Search the Books and other resources. With the help of login credentials, they can also check their library account forĀ 

  • Suggesting any title for procurement.Ā 
  • Reserve the Title that they want to read
  • Number of books they have issued.
  • Due Date of the books which are issued.
  • Fine amount to be paid.

The Circulation rules of the library are as follows:

  1. Resources will be issued within the issue limits of the member as defined in the below table.
  2. The member should get the resources issued at the Circulation Counter by producing the Identity Card.
  3. Resources, at the time of return, may be reissued to the same member only once for 7 days provided, there is no reservation against that resource. However, Magazines/Journals, AV Resources (CDs, VCDs, Floppies & Video Cassettes), Course Materials, Annual Reports, Reports, and papers will not issued.
  4. On Display issues of the magazines, journals, and newspapers will not be issued, however, back issues of a few journals and magazines may be issued.
  5. The library also subscribes to eminent journals and databases both for reference and research. During working hours, students may refer to reference books and project reports in the reading hall.

The rules for the reservation of resources in the library are as follows:

  1. Members can reserve both the available and unavailable resources by logging into the portal.
  2. The availability of the reserved resource if returned by another member would be informed through an e-mail.
  3. On availability, the reserved resource should be collected from the library within 24 Hrs of intimation, failing which the reservation will stand cancelled.

The return rules of the library are as follows:

  1. Resources should be returned on or before the due date mentioned in the due date slip.
  2. Late fee would be charged from all borrowers who retain the book(s) beyond the due date as mentioned in Library Fine Section.
  3. The Librarian may recall any book(s), issued to any member, at any time to meet urgent demand. If the book is not returned to meet the urgent demand the memberā€™s ID will be blocked on the third day.

Library Fines

The members will have to pay the late fee and other fines imposed on them as per the following rules:

  1. Late fee @ Rs10/day would be charged for each overdue resource,
  2. Late Fee @ Rs20/day would be charged if the overdue resource is found reserved by another member.
  3. In case of any damage/lost resource(s), the member should inform the damage/loss immediately to the library and replace the same resource(s) at his/her own cost within ten days.
  4. If the members fail to replace the resource(s) within the stipulated time, their ID will be blocked, and Library will initiate the purchase and the member will be charged the actual cost of the resource(s) plus a 30% service charge and the amount will be collected with applicable late fine.

The general rules pertaining to the library are as follows:

  1. Every student must possess his/her ID card while availing themselves of the library facilities.
  2. Members/students shall leave their personal belongings such as bags, personal books, magazines, umbrellas, water bottles, etc. at the counter reserved for this purpose. Only laptops and notebooks are allowed in the Reading area of the library.
  3. Eating, listening to music, loudly speaking, talking on mobile phones, etc. is strictly prohibited on the library premises. Members shall maintain silence in the library and should not disturb other readers.
  4. The library follows an open-access book system. Books should not be shelved by the readers and should either be handed over to the library staff on duty or placed on the reading tables.
  5. Member must assure, before leaving the circulation counter, that the books issued to him/her are in good condition or not, otherwise he/she will be held responsible for any damage if the book is found damaged in any manner at the time of return.
  6. Members should not deface, mark, cut pages, mutilate, or damage the reading materials in any way. In case a member is found doing so, their Membership will be terminated.
  7. While leaving the library, the members should ensure that they carry only those books that are duly issued in their names, otherwise disciplinary action will be taken against them.
  8. Members are expected to wear formal dress while visiting the library.

How do I Issue books?

Go to the book stacks, pick up the books you like to borrow, carry these books to the Circulation Counter. Present your BMU ID card at the counter, the library staff will issue them to you.

What to do if I lose the Identity card?

Get in touch with IT department, they will issue duplicate card against Payment

Can an outsider use the BMU Library?

Outsider cannot use the BMU library. However, with the prior approval the librarian can permit

What are the issue/return (of books) timings of the BMU Library?

The Circulation time for the books is as below

What is ā€œOPACā€?

OPAC stands for ā€˜Online Public Access Catalogueā€™. This is a database of all books, and reference books available in the library. It enables speedy search by author, title, subject, keyword, etc.

How do I know what e-books are available / accessible to BMU library users?

Go to library web page, Click on Resources then select E-Books document from the sub-menu. The document will list all the e-books available.

Can I bring my own books in the Library?

Yes you can bring your personal books for study inside the library

What shall I do if I do not get the book on the shelves?

First contact the library staff responsible for shelving of books in that area. If not satisfied, please contact Staff at Circulation Counter.

What is the maximum lending period for an issued book?

The maximum lending period for different users is as given below

  • Ā PG Students – 7 days
  • Ā Ph.D. and Staff member – 01 Month
  • Ā Faculty Members – The due date is always stamped on the due date slip at the back pages of the book during issuance.

How do I renew books I have already issued?

Bring the books intended to renew back to the library and get them renewed at the Circulation Counter.

How many times a book can be renewed?

A book can be renewed 2 times.

Is there a fine for late return (Overdue) of books?

Yes, if the user fails to return the books within the prescribed period of time the user has to pay a penalty of Re.10/day per book.

How / where do I pay Library dues?

All the library dues (fine) can be paid to finance with your Maitri Account.

Can I Issue Journals overnight or for a short period?

No, Journals cannot be issued.

What types of documents are kept in the Reference Collection?

References collection mainly contains encyclopaedias, handbooks, dictionaries, directories, CD and some rare collection books.

Can I borrow the reference books?

Reference books are not issued for home issues, they are meant for referring and reading purposes within the reading room of the library.

How do I refer Dissertations/ theses?

All the theses are available online in full text through the ā€œShodhgangaā€ repository of INFLIBNET.

Can I borrow a dissertation/thesis?

No. Theses and dissertations are not issued.

What am I required to do for the loss of book?

Ā As far as possible, replace the same copy of lost book or its latest edition (where the earlier edition is not a rare book). If the book is not available for sale in the market 2 times of the cost of the book must be paid.

Can regular users recommend a book for purchase in the BMU library?
